Your information
Privacy notice
What we collect when you join, why, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
The Apostolic Order Of Simon Peter; Blade-Bearer (“the Order”, “we”) is a religious association based in South Australia. It is seeking incorporation and will be seeking charity status in the future. This notice explains how we handle personal information collected through our membership form.
What we collect
- Your full name, which appears on your certificate and in our membership records.
- Your email address, used to send you your membership details and to let you download your certificate again. It is never published.
- Your state or territory.
- The date you choose for your certificate.
- Your statement of faith, if you choose to give one. This is optional.
- When you accepted this notice.
- Your choices about whether to be listed and whether to hide part of your name.
Sensitive information
Your statement of faith, and the fact that you are a member of a religious order, reveal your religious belief. The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) treats this as sensitive information. We ask for your consent before we collect it, and we collect it only if you choose to give it. You may leave the statement blank and still join.
Why we use it
We use your information to register you as a member, issue and re-issue your membership certificate, keep the membership register, communicate with you about the Order, and meet our legal and reporting obligations as an association.
The public members page
Unless you choose otherwise, your name and state appear on our public members page. You can:
- leave the “Add me to the public members page” box ticked and choose to hide your first name or your last name (for example, J**** Smith or Jane S****); or
- untick the box, in which case your name appears as ****** ****** with your state only.
Your email address and your statement of faith are never shown on the public page. You can change your choice at any time by contacting us.
Who can see your information
Only authorised officers of the Order can see your full record. We do not sell your information or share it with anyone for marketing. We may disclose it where the law requires us to.
How we protect it
The membership register is kept on the Order’s own systems. Access to it is restricted to authorised officers and is protected by a password. [Describe any further measures you use, such as backups and second sign-in.]
How long we keep it
We keep your membership record while you are a member, and for a further period required by law after you leave. You can ask us to remove your record earlier, subject to any legal duty to keep it.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to remove it. Contact us at the address on our contact page. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide you with membership, and we will tell you what that means for you.
Donations
If you donate through PayPal, PayPal processes your payment under its own privacy policy, and we receive only the details it passes on to us, such as your name, email address and the amount. We never see your card details. Cryptocurrency transactions are recorded on a public blockchain (Monero transactions are private by design), and we do not ask for your wallet address.
